The top photo is Kodaikanal’s only video store (the gaping hole on the right is another store). The proprietor has about 75 DVDs, mostly American movies, all pirated. The second photo is the local laundry, which consists of the river and rocks. Clothes are soaked, slammed on the rocks, twisted, soaked, and slammed again. The term ‘stone washed’ really applies here.
Caye stepped down from a high sidewalk in the center of town and almost stepped on what she thought was a cat but turned out to be a monkey. It hissed at her and jumped left while Caye jumped right just as quickly.
Interesting dialog in our apartment a few minutes ago: “Could you get out of the kitchen so I can get in there?” You can stand in one spot and touch all four walls. The space to stand is approximately the area of a phone booth.
We have a snazzy little electric water filter on the bathroom wall that produces a stream of pure water whenever we turn it on for a few minutes, quite a useful piece of technology.
