Above: some of the Mexican workers take their turn tying rebar on the top of the church.
Our project was to put a roof on a structure attached to the church that will be used as a multi use facility. The structure was about 20 X 20. Our group and three male and one female Mexican quickly got to work cutting and tying rebar into 12-inch squares. When that was finished they tied another set the same, but off-set. They placed stones under the rebar. I had some information in my memory banks from going to job sites with Michael, many years ago, which was helpful.
Most of our group spent the mornings working on the roof but each day two or three, different each day, joined some of the local church officials and walked the streets, spreading the word and passing out Bibles and tracts. The children (often carried by our teenagers) enjoyed the attention. In the afternoon was Bible study for the children using puppets as a teaching aid. This was followed by a quick religious craft project that they could take home, juice and a granola bar. The children, on the whole, were attentive and seemed to understand the message. We attended church with the Mexicans and most of our group gave testimonials.
